Empire

Has history told us
Nothing about empires
Of building Babel towers
Towards heaven

By the way…
Do we reach God
By road or by elevator?

Is it not obvious that
We merely duplicate
All that past away
It’s nothing new
It has been
Done and over done
Again and yet again

Empires fall and crumble
Transient and earthly
Ruled by mortals
The magi
And the kings of Egypt
They know that
There is no more time
The time is now
There is no escape
Judgment draws close
Study the past and you find
Even the greatest fallen

Who then are you and I?
What great things
Do we possess?
That the generation before
Did not have in abundance
And those to come will have
Yet more of it still
As the ultimate goal
It does not change
The years go by

It does not change

Where are the books of old?
Did they not burn at Alexandria?
Did you hear of Atlantis?
A myth, a legend, a dream?
Yet who knows
There is wisdom there

Still they build empires
With the blood of the people
Truly the salt of the earth
They build empires
From their bones
From their children’s ashes
They mix mortar
And claim to do it all
In the name of the Lord

And then behold
Their boastful stories…
Verily the world is cold

Hurray my people
I do verily believe
That you have managed
To deceive God’s people
And they like sheep
To slaughter creep

One sisterhood of man is what we need
